Are We Working?

As people who are to be imitators of God, are we working the words of joint-heirs with Christ?

John 14:11 – Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.

I read a very poignant statement recently.  Someone wrote, “A silent preacher is no better than a dead preacher.”  I know that’s strong, but in reality, it is truth.  Today, however, I want to go a bit further, but not just about preachers (the five-fold ministry), but concerning the church as a whole.  This is in no way an attack on the body of Christ.  Rather it is an observation that I believe needs to be taken to heart and given strong consideration.  Consider the words of our Lord in our Text for Today.

Jesus had spoken to the people on many occasions.  Still many of them did not believe.  So Jesus said to them, “If you don’t believe what I say for the sake of believing the Word, at least believe Me because of the works I do.”  That is the simple meaning of our Text for Today.  I have a query for your consideration today that arises from Jesus’ statement.  To how many people have you spoken in your lifetime as a believer about the things of God?  I cannot begin to tell you what that number is in my life, especially after 47-years of ministry.  I have spoken to people as individuals and in groups up to a few thousand in number.  I am thrilled that I can say that many people have responded to the words I have spoken by accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and many have come back to the Lord.  Many have been filled with Holy Spirit evidenced by speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gave utterance.  I have seen more healings and deliverances than I can remember, and even experienced the raising of the dead through my ministry.  And while I ascribe all the glory for those things to our Lord, they are all in the past.  Without considering all the tomorrows we have before us, let us consider TODAY.  Are we speaking Father’s Word into every situation we face TODAY?  Are people believing us as we overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the Word of our testimony TODAY?  And if they believe not for our testimony, are we demonstrating the works of the Lord as evidence of our words, our testimony, our preaching TODAY?  Can we say to those to whom we speak, as Jesus did, “If you don’t believe what I say, at least believe me for the works you see by the hand of God through me?”  I know we’re talking.  The evidence of that is in our books, social media, CD’s & DVD’s, radio & television.  But are we working TODAY?
