Command Before Comfort

If you will receive the comfort of Holy Ghost, you must first accept the command of the Lord.

John 14:16 – And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you forever.

Jesus spoke very directly and clearly about Holy Ghost and His role as Comforter in our lives.  That role is key to our victory and success as believers living in this present world.  Without Him, you simply won’t be able to make it.  As a Christian in today’s world, you are a leader, and as a leader, you need all the help you can get.  I do much teaching on leadership and train leaders.  One of the great elements of leadership is to understand that without a successor, there is no success.  Jesus understood that well, and lived out His earthly ministry with that philosophy.  He followed a five-step plan.  (1) I do and you watch me do (His earthly ministry as seen at the wedding feast of Cana); (2) I do and you help me do (see Him work from the point of healing the woman with the issue of blood to the raising up of the daughter of Jairus from the dead); (3) You do and I help you do (see Him with His disciples in the storm when they awoke Him to calm the sea); (4) You do and I watch you do (see Him send out His disciples, both the 12 and the 70, two-by-two); (5) Now you teach someone else to do (the Great Commission).

Now I’ve a question for you.  Do you really want Holy Spirit to be strong in your life as the Comforter?  I’m sure you do; I certainly do.  But think for a moment.  How can He serve you if you’re already comfortable?  For the Comforter to do His work, you need to be in a place where you need comforting; where you do and He helps you do.  Now keep thinking; is that not what Jesus has sent Holy Spirit to do in your life?  To be your Helper, your Paracletos, you Teacher, your Guide, your Comforter.  Holy Ghost has not been sent to DO the works of the Lord Jesus; that’s your job.  But He HAS been sent to HELP you do the works of Jesus, and “greater works” than He has done.  If you want His Comforting presence, then you must accept His supernatural command and face the challenges that face an Ambassador of the Lord in the earth.  You, as an heir of God and joint-heir with Christ, the Anointed One, have been made a spokesman for God in this world.  Jesus said Holy Ghost was upon Him BECAUSE He was anointed.  You’re anointed to receive the aid of the Comforter, but don’t expect it unless you are willing to obey His commands and walk in faith facing the challenges that come with your assignment in Him.
