Fitted for Receiving

When one is born again, one is custom fitted by God to be filled with His Spirit.

John 14:15-17 – If ye love me, keep my commandments.  And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;  Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

There is, in our age of technology, a mighty working of God through Holy Spirit that, while more and more widespread within the church, is little evidenced as a witness for Jesus in this world.  It is the baptism in (or infilling of) Holy Ghost.  While many are the people I know who lay claim to this wonderful gift of the Lord in their lives, few in that number are those in whom I see the power of Holy Spirit evidenced by their daily living.

There are many dear believers in this earth who have surely received Jesus as their Lord and Savior, but have not at this point in time received the promise of the Spirit, that power from on high that is promised us subsequent to the infilling of Holy Spirit.  May of those believers are in churches where the doctrine of the baptism in Holy Ghost is set forth as a basic tenet of faith, and at the very least, verbally espoused.  Yet they go unbaptized in and unfilled with His powerful being and presence.  Why is this so?  Could it be that while the doctrine is in the documents, in is not in the disciples?

Then, sadly, there are those who are taught, and falsely so, that one receives the fullness of Holy Ghost at their conversion, at the point of the new birth.  I encourage you to read our Text for Today once again.  From that reading alone it is clearly noted that while the world CAN receive Jesus, the world CANNOT receive Holy Spirit.  There MUST exist with God a “Father/child” relationship for one to be “fitted to receive” Holy Ghost.

So here I come to my conclusion today.  Are you a believer?  Have you been born again?  If so, then you have been “fitted to receive” Holy Ghost, and that in His fullness.  With that filling come power; power to witness, and great power to work and serve.  If you have already received Him, then give yourself to Him for His great work AND witness.  If you are born again, but have not received Him, do so now!  He will be given freely to any child of God who asks and believes.  You WILL speak in other tongues as He gives utterance.  And expect more than tongues; expect the power, too.  And if you’re not born again, read and pray Romans 10:9-10, and be “fitted to receive.”
