Greater is he that is in me, and oh how I rejoice in that truth!
John 14:23 – Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
When I served as a pastor, one of my favorite praise songs had the words, “I’ve got something on the inside, working on the outside; oh what a change in my life!” And what a joy it is to not only sing that song, but be able to share it as a part of my testimony in my walk with Jesus. Just as the Ark of the Covenant was made of acacia wood, lined inside and out with pure gold, and having a covering called the mercy seat, also made of pure gold, so is the believer; a natural vessel with God on the inside, and God on the outside, and crowned with a crown of glory the Lord has given us when we were born again. While I am in no way attempting to lessen the importance of that which is on the outside, without that which is on the inside, none of the rest would be possible.
That “something on the inside” we sing about is far more than a “something.” He is a SOMEONE; it is the fulness of the God-head indwelling each believer bodily. Jesus and Father have come and made Their abode in us, and Holy Ghost has come to fill us with Himself. Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, the three bring One, dwell on the inside of me, and I can boldly declare that “greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world.” It all began for me on Wednesday evening, June 17, 1959, when I confessed Jesus as my Lord, believing in my heart that God had raised Him from the dead. Then in 1971, after marrying a Pentecostal bride, I received the baptism in Holy Ghost and spoke with tongues as Holy Ghost gave me utterance. Those events have drastically changed my life, so I can boldly declare, “I have some-thing on the inside, working on the outside; oh what a change in my life!” Now over the succeeding years the Lord has helped me grow in Him. I recognize the “something” as Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. They, along with my own spirit, growing daily in the wisdom, understanding, and knowledge of God and His Word empower my life so that “something on the inside” changes what’s seen on the outside.
