Actions Speak

It is so dangerous to hear God’s Word and yet refuse to act in accord with it.

_______________

John 14:24 – He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.

_______________

From our Manna for Today1 John 5:3, perhaps THE defining verse for the love of God, we also read “His commandments are not grievous.”  The commandments of the Lord, whether all that is written in the Word, or specific commandments the Lord will give for one’s specific work in the earth, are NEVER grievous in nature.  They DO NOTgrieve the human spirit.  It is no more the will of God for the spirit of His children to be grieved than it is for God to be grieved Himself.  There may be times when His commandments seem difficult to carry out to our emotions or flesh, but they are never grievous to one’s spirit.  Keeping the Word of God is always walking in the love of God, and to see the end of that, read 1 Corinthians 13.  Keeping God’s commandments is, in effect, laying one’s life down for one’s friends; putting self aside for the good of others in the eyes of God.

But to fail in this is far more destructive, damaging, and even damning than believers have considered.  Jesus said that if we loved Him, we would keep His commandments.  For a believer to fail to keep the commandments of His Lord is to demonstrate disregard for his/her Lord, and in fact, to demonstrate apathy towards the Word and the things of God.  Look closely at Matthew 7:24-27.   Do you see the good news in verses 24 & 25?  That is such a blessing spoken into the life of an obedient believer.  Regardless of rains, floods, or winds, nothing can bring down the obedient life in the Word.  But the shattering news comes in verses 26 & 27.  The disobedient believer will face the same rains, floods, and winds faced by the obedient believer, but the disobedient will fall.  That, dear one, is bad enough, but please note the phrase our Lord uses to describe the fall of the disobedient; “and great was the fall of it.”  Let this point be clearly made.  It makes no difference who a disobedient believer is, when he/she falls to the storms of life, Jesus said it will be “great.”  Oh how He loves you and me!  For it to be a “great….fall,” that which fell had to be great.  In His eyes, you are great.  Let your obedience speak to your greatness in Him.
