The work of Holy Spirit is to be our Helper. What He came to do, He is to do THROUGH us.

John 16:8 – And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

I read a statement by Billy Graham that I found to be so powerful. He said that the Comforter (Holy Ghost) did not come to make us comfortable, but to help us comfort those who need it. While that is not an exact quote, it certainly carries his message accurately. Look at our Text for Today. Here we see an amplification of the purpose of Holy Spirit in the earth. In reading this, keep in mind that Holy Ghost is our Helper. What we read that He will do, He will accomplish by working THROUGH believers to “reprove.” That word, “reprove,” means to confute (prove to be false or invalid; overthrow by evidence or stronger argument), admonish (warn; advise), convict (overcome in argument decisively), convince (satisfy one’s understanding as to truth), tell a fault (verbally identify), and rebuke (reprimand, chide, scold, beat back).
Jesus said that when Holy Ghost was come, this is what He would do. When we add to that consideration the truth that Holy Ghost is our Helper, that is, He comes to help us fulfill our roles as ambassadors for and ministers of the New Covenant, we come to understand that Holy Ghost’s work is to help us fully accomplish what He came to set forth. He has not come to work alone, but THROUGH you and me. Please understand, dear reader, that for the Lord to accomplish all He desires to do in this earth in this age, WE MUST BE ACTIVELY INVOLVED in carrying out the work of the kingdom. When we read what Holy Spirit has come to do, we MUST accept the responsibility of DOING what He was sent to do as He works THROUGH us. The more fully one embraces the work that must be done, the greater the manifestation of Holy Ghost in, for, to, and through one’s life.
I urge you to take time and commit yourself to reading the Word and clearly identifying the work Holy Ghost has come to do in this, the church age. And then, having identified that which He has come to do, determine that you will give yourself to His leadership, direction, and revelation in obeying the Word. There is power awaiting us that most believers have never witnessed, or even imagined. Give yourself to it. A world living in the lies of darkness is in desperate need of someone walking in the power to bring the light of truth to them.
