Follow Him

Unlike never before, it is of utmost importance that we know how to follow the bidding of the Spirit.

When Jesus was baptized, it was Holy Spirit that led Him into the wilderness to fast for 40 days, and after that, to be tempted by the enemy.  Holy Spirit already knew the outcome of that encounter, and He led Jesus there to win a victory for which He was prepared.  When Philip left the move of God in Samaria and went into the wilderness, it was Holy Spirit Who led him there to encounter the Ethiopian eunuch, so that he, in turn, could impact a nation.  When Peter went to the house of Cornelius, it was Holy Spirit that led him there as a vessel to carry the Gospel and as a witness to not only speak to the household, but to carry a witness back to the Jews who would question any relationship with the Gentiles.  Do you see a pattern the Holy Spirit is revealing?  Consider this.

When Jesus was baptized, there was a great revealing, even to the public, of Who Jesus was…”My beloved Son in Whom I am well pleased.”  Yet from there, Jesus went into obscurity to be prepared to win a great battle.  When Holy Spirit leads us, it is NEVER to something smaller, though it may seem so.  It is ALWAYS to a greater glory.  When Philip left Samaria, there had been a great revival, so great in fact, that the apostles had to be called to help in sustaining it.  Yet Philip was led into relative obscurity, but there was a greater work to do.  Philip’s influence was about to go from city-level to nation-level.  When Holy Spirit leads us, it is NEVER to something smaller, though it may seem so.  It is ALWAYS to a greater glory.  When Peter left Joppa after spawning great awakening and revival, he left a miracle of raising the dead for which he drew great acclaim to a house he would be greatly criticized for entering.  Yet from that house sprang the move of God to the Gentiles (the whole world).   When Holy Spirit leads us, it is NEVER to something smaller, though it may seem so.  It is ALWAYS to a greater glory.

That is God’s plan for you…to take you from glory to glory by His Spirit.  While it is a lifetime investment and commitment you need to make, one should never depart from the basics.  Here are three vital elements to being open and ready to be led by Holy Spirit.

  1. Put God’s Word in first place; read, study, memorize, meditate upon, obey, and comply with the Word of God.
  2. Pray daily, consistently, and accurately.  Study and engage in prayer.  Listen to those who know how to pray. Pray the Word of God.
  3. Stay in fellowship with the saints.  Be committed to a local church that has a truly God-given vision for soul winning and discipleship.  Find partnership, brotherhood, ministry placement, and spiritual fulfillment.
