The more you understand covenant, you better you will understand Jehovah.
Deuteronomy 7:9 – Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;

Our God, Jehovah, Yahweh Elohim, El Shaddai, is a covenant making and keeping God. I have often said, “One word from God is all of God.” The reason I say that is because God and His Word are One; They are inseparable. If God says it, that settles it. His Word is truth and is forever settled in heaven. And God’s Word, because it is forever settled in heaven, and because it is One with God, is covenant.
The first five words of the Bible establish the covenant character and nature of our Father. “In the beginning, God created.” Settle that in your heart immediately. God is NOT a thief, a murderer, or a destroyer. That is the character and nature of the great deceiver, the devil. He has come to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus has come to give us life, and life more abundantly. Any true study of God’s Word will clearly reveal what happens when God sets forth a covenant. He identifies Himself clearly, He speaks clearly to the party with whom He intends to make covenant, He clearly designates the responsibilities of the covenant for Himself and His covenant partner, He clearly sets forth the blessings inherent to the covenant, and He will cite penalties from breaking or fighting against the covenant. These things are not always listed in a particular order, but the study of His covenant commitments will lead to the revelation of all these elements.
When Father makes a covenant, He keeps covenant, and will never fail in that covenant until He replaces it with a better covenant. Our primary example of that is the replacement of the Old Covenant by a new and better Covenant called the New Testament, or New Covenant. The Old Covenant was a covenant of laws in which the violation of one was the violation of all. The New Covenant is a covenant of love that works by faith, trusting in the completed work of Jesus Who not only redeemed us from the curse of the law, but was Himself made to be the propitiation of our sins, and has through that made us the righteous-ness of God in Christ, releasing to us every blessing of that covenant. And glory of glories, if one of His covenant people fail, fall short, sin, we have an advocate with the Father, and when we confess that sin, He is faithful to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness, restoring us to complete fellowship with Father. Our Advocate, now our High Priest, ever lives to make intercession for us to Father, and through Him we have eternal life; that’s eternal covenant.
