Faith – Foundational Principles – 8

Doubt should have no place in the heart of a child of God.

Mark 11:22-24 – And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.  For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.  Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

In our Text for Today, we read the phrase, “and shall not doubt in his heart.”  This is a keenly important element in the highest-level operation of faith.  Doubt can be a crippler if it rises from the spirit man.  We should note here that the Scripture did NOT say, “doubt in your head (soul, or mind).”  Our thinking will always be influenced to some degree by the circumstances around us, but that does not mean we have to allow that influence to control our mind.  The influence may seem strong, but if the mind is renewed to the Word of God, the influence of circumstances and fleshly (sense) input will be minimalized.  But in today’s Second Miler, we’re speaking specifically about doubt in one’s heart (spirit).

So, the question then arises, what can one do to prevent doubt from entering one’s spirit?  And the answer, once again, falls back on the Word of God.  Here are some thoughts from the Scripture to answer that question.  Psalm 119, the longest of the Psalms, mentions the Word of God with one term or another in each verse.  In verse eleven we read, “Your Word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against You.”  You see, whatsoever is not of faith is sin.  That’s found in Romans.  Since faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God, then it stands to reason that our greatest defense against doubt is faith.  When your heart is filled with faith, and I do mean FILLED, there is no room for anything else, and that includes doubt.

The Word of God does not mix with doubt.  One or the other has to go.  Both cannot exist in a potent and viable form in the same place.  Fill you heart with the Word of God.  Keep your spirit man filled with the faith of God you are commanded to have.  Joshua tells us that we are to meditate upon the Word of God day and night, never allowing the Word to depart from our mouth, so we can observe to do according to what is written in our Covenant.  When we do that, we shall make our way prosperous and have good success.  The “prosperous way” spoken of in that verse is not just about money.  It is speaking of success at every level in all I put my hands to do.  Then can only exist in an atmosphere free from doubt.  Only the Word of God can so fill our spirit man with faith that there is no room for doubt.  Stay full of God’s Word.
