A Possession to Be Prized
Proverbs 17:22 – A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
Do you prize your general health; the health of your entire being? I certainly do. Sadly, I have met many people who don’t prize their health until no longer have it, and then they often become desperate to regain it by whatever means are possible. And in today’s world, the means for regaining one’s health seem to be numerous, when in reality, they are not. But I offer you an absolutely sure method of not only regaining your health, but of walking in health and keeping it once you have it.
First, allow me to make one thing very clear. If the Lord calls you apart for a time of separation unto Him, obey Him. Obedience is better than sacrifice. Obedience to the Lord ALWAYS pays off in blessing. People around you may not understand it, and may even speak against what you might be doing, but if you are obeying God, you are doing the right thing.
In general, day-to-day living, no one lives or dies to himself. We are commanded that we do not forsake the assembling of ourselves together. We are part of the body of Christ. Each member of the body of Christ needs the other members of the body of Christ. Just as an individual part of my body cannot perform all the necessary functions of life, so it is with the body of Christ. None of use, regardless of how knowledgeable, anointed, called, and gifted, can perform every function necessary to be the body of Christ in its full measure. WE NEED EACH OTHER.
And where our health is concerned, that is especially true. I need fellowship that produces joy and a merry heart. I need your wisdom and ability in my life to help fulfill all my needs. I need to hear you speak the Word of God. I need to hear you pray, especially when you’re praying for me. I need to hear your laughter so we can laugh together. While there are certainly times when quiet is good for us; when silence is necessary for us, in the long haul of life, we are people who needs sound, good sound, edifying sound about us. Think for a moment. How does faith come? By hearing, and hearing by the Word of God that is preached. Without faith, it is impossible to please God. Open your heart to hear the words of those about you, especially if they are speaking in line with the Word of God. The sound of the voices of those I love, both family and friends, is like music to my ears. It is music to which I can join my voice in harmony, and in that harmony is joy and merriness of heart….medicine to my entire being….health to my whole person.
