A Good Word

Take a moment today and consider what it is that God considers a “good word.”

Proverbs 12:25 – Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.

If ever there was a time in the church when the people of God, and for that matter, all mankind needed to hear a good word, it is today.  Evil is getting worse daily.  Violence pervades our lives as never before in the history of mankind.  Sickness and disease is running rampant, corruption is seething through our nations by our own governments, divorce and abortion are at their highest rates in history, and the concept of one being ruled by a righteous conscience seems to be a thing of the past.

In many places, the voice of the man of God is not heard at all for fear of disease and government restriction.  Where men of God do stand to speak, much of what is said is froth with fear, worry, anxiety, and care.  Many who speak may bring forth a positive word, but a positive word is not always the “good word” referenced in our Text for Today.  So, just what is a “good word?”

A “good word” is a word from the Lord that edifies and ministers grace, builds up the faith of God’s people, and brings light to them as it enters their heart.  A “good word” is a word from the Lord that reproves, rebukes, and exhorts with long-suffering and doctrine.  A “good word” is a word from the Lord that instructs, plants holy vision, heals, and delivers the hearers.  A “good word” does not merely make one feel better about himself or circumstances around him.  Instead, it sets before a man the path he should follow, the steps he should take, and the order for walking in victory by preparing him to fight the good fight of faith.  A “good word” serves to build the spiritual muscle of faith so that Father is pleased by his man’s words, actions, deeds, path, and godly manner of living.

Men of God, I exhort you; go to the Word of God and allow Holy Spirit to roast that Word with fire, bringing a healing and delivering message to the people.  People of God, I exhort you; go to the Word of God for yourself, confirming that which the men of God bring to you as truth.  Church, I exhort you; go to the Word of God.  Read it, study it, meditate upon it, memorize it, learn it by heart, speak it, and live it with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, for in that, you will abound in the walk of love and will assure your faith works in pleasing Father.  Father has a “good word” just for you.
