1 Peter 2:2-4 – Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
One of the most powerful statements that can be found in Scripture is the opening portion of our Text for Today. “Grace and peace be multiplied unto you…” Read that statement once again, and think of this. The grace of God saves you through faith. That is eternally powerful at a supernatural level one’s mind finds it hard to grasp. Peace is that place of relationship you have in Christ in which there is nothing missing, and nothing broken. That is a wonderful place to stand in Him. Now think for a moment. That is GRACE and PEACE at what might be called their primary level. Now look at the seven noted words once again. What do the last four words say? “…be multiplied unto you.” The Lord desires to go so far beyond adding something you your life that He chooses to multiply it, and that exponentially. His intention is not to ADD grace to the grace you have received, but to MULTIPLY the grace you have already received. Hold on to that truth as we delve deeper into our Text for Today.
Not only does the Lord want to MULTIPLY the grace and peace that has been given to you, but He goes on to tell us precisely how that can be accomplished. That multiplication of grace and peace takes place in the believer who knows he/she has “been given all things that pertain to life and godliness.” He then takes you yet higher in this work by revealing to you HOW all the things that pertain to life and godliness have been given to you. They come to you “through the knowledge of Him that hath called us to glory and virtue.” He then goes yet deeper. He tells us that when we have the “knowledge of Him” existing in us, that we receive “exceeding great and precious promises” from Him.
Ah, but let us not stop there. His next statement is God’s personal rationale for doing all this. It is by all this being accomplished in the life of the believer that we are made able to “be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” Oh, what a joyous place to be found in Christ, having our grace and peace multiplied through the knowledge of God and Jesus by His divine power, and that from this we receive ALL THINGS that pertain to life and godliness, ultimately making us to be partakers of His divine nature. My friend, YOU ARE OF GOD!
