He Is My King
Text for Today – Proverbs 18:24 – A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
I have a Friend Whose Name is Jesus, and He is my King. When the term “king” is used, most people think of someone who lives at the highest level of authority, with every possible advantage in life, and everyone else living to supply the needs of the king. While that may be true in a fantasy world, and has certainly been shown to be true in the lives of tyrants who were called kings, such is not the case for the King of kings. In the Word of God, the Greek term for king is basileus. While it is translated king, the deeper meaning of the word is base, or foundation of power. In essence, a true king does not think of that title as representing someone at the top, ruling over others, but rather as the foundational character and personage upon which the kingdom is built. That is certainly the way Jesus, our King of kings, sees it.
Make no mistake about it. Jesus IS King of kings. He gained His place of authority by inheritance (He was appointed to receive it), it was conferred upon Him (by Father Jesus was given a more excellent name than all the angels), and conquest (by defeating Satan, death, hell, and the grave, and taking it back from Satan). In the Old Testament, there were three people who were anointed. They were the priest (those who went to God for the people), the prophet (those who came to the people from God), and the king (those who led the people as servant warriors, bring charged with the responsibility of servant leaders).
My Friend, Jesus, the King of kings, my King, has set in motion all that is necessary for me to live a full life, a blessed life, a rich life, a fully supplied life, and a free life in Him. He laid aside His heavenly authority, took upon Himself the form of a man, gave Himself for me, fought the ultimate battle for me, has been raised up and seated in heaven for me, and has raised me up together with Him in heavenly places so I could live in the fullness of life and authority He purchased for me. If ever a servant king lives and reigns, Jesus IS that King and fulfills His role perfectly. He exercises His authority over me, in my life, with His great love by which He has loved us all. He has given me, by power of attorney, the right and responsibility to use His Name in the fullness of its authority, that I might live a life of victory now in this earth. And what’s more, He is with me at all times, confirming and backing up the authority He has given me, sustaining me in all things. I do indeed have a Friend. His Name is Jesus.
