Text for Today – Proverbs 18:24 – A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
Jesus Christ is King of kings and Lord of lords. I have written about my Friend, King Jesus. Today I write to you about my Friend, Lord Jesus. While He is the same person, there is a difference in King and Lord. The title of King speaks to someone who leads a kingdom from the perspective of military might and legal authority. Let there be no doubt, Jesus Christ is King of kings. We are His army, and He has armed us for battle with His armor and authority. But Lordship seems to be more an issue of relationship between the one who is called Lord and His people. In this writing, when I speak of Lordship, I do not speak of the imagery of a King leading his people in battle, whether it be defense or offensive conquest. Rather I speak of provision, care, vision, growth, and development.
Allow me to be as clear as possible. I bow to my King, my Friend, King Jesus, because He is the Mighty Warrior Who conquered death, hell, and the grave. I honor Him as my great Victor Who allows me to share in His victory, and goes even further in making me a king under His Kingship. I bow to my Lord, my Friend, Lord Jesus, because He so loved me that He gave Himself to the death of the cross and paid the full price of my redemption, suffering in hell, and was raised from the dead, not to condemn me, but that I could be made the righteousness of God in Him. As my Lord, He does so much more than lead me in victory. He has covenanted to be the Provider of every need that could ever arise in my life. He has committed Himself to undergird me with all His Kingly authority, and to love me with all His Lordly ability. As my Lord, He has made Himself completely available to me to raise me up in Him, seat me with Him, give me His mind and thinking capacity, to keep my body which is His temple whole and sound, and to keep me in the safe keeping of His courts of authority all the days of my life.
Jesus, my Friend, is my Lord (Jehovah); my Jehovah-Jireh (my Provider), my Jehovah-Shammah (Ever-Present Lord), my Jehovah-Shalom (my Peace), my Jehovah-Nissi (my Banner & Captain), my Jehovah–Ra’ah (my Shepherd), my Jehovah-Rapha (my Healer), my Jehovah-T’sidkenu (my Righteousness), and my Jehovah-M’Khaddesh (my Sanctifier). Yes, I freely and willingly bow before my King, my Friend, King Jesus. And I also bow freely, willingly, and humbly before my Lord, my Friend, Lord Jesus, for He is not only my King, but Jesus Christ is my Lord. To God be the glory.
