Oh, what a Savior my Friend is!
Text for Today – Proverbs 18:24 – A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
Think about this. Many nations have had kings during the age of man, but none of those kings was the savior of mankind. Only Jesus rises to that standard. Those nations during the age of man have called their king both sovereign and lord, but none of those sovereigns and lords has ever held true supreme authority or provided all the needs of the people over whom they held sovereignty. Only one person has risen to the level of being a true Sovereign and Lord, and that is Jesus Christ.
I have written about Jesus, my Friend, being my King and my Lord, but today I write of Jesus, my Friend, as my Savior. And oh, what a Savior He is! He saved me from spiritual death to impart to me eternal spiritual life. He saved me so I could replace carnal thinking with His mind and have full access to divine thinking. He saved me from sickness and disease so I could partake of complete healing and live eternally with divine health provided through His sacrifice at Calvary. He saved me from every demonic power so I could live eternally free from all the power of the enemy. He saved me from poverty of every kind so I could live with eternal access to every provision necessary for success and victory.
The term salvation is from the Greek word sozo, and the term Savior is from the Greek derivation of sozo, soter. It means “savior” or “deliverer.” To be saved is much more than to be helped. If I am swimming, and begin to have difficulty, a lifeguard may come to my rescue, and may be instrumental in providing me the assistance I need to get safely out of the water, but he did not save me. If, however, I had gone past the point of needing help, and had come to the point of being completely unable to get out of the water, even with help, I need someone to save me. That is, I need someone who can take on the total responsibility of getting me out of the water, and make sure I was able to breath on my own, taking care of myself. Such a person could be credited with saving me. He did more than help me. He took the entire responsibility to assure that fact that I lived and did not die.
That is precisely what Jesus, my Friend, my Savior, did for me. He became sin for me, He took all my sin, sickness, poverty, torment, and bondage upon Himself, but never asked me if I wanted Him to do it. Dear reader, Jesus, my Friend, is my Savior. And what a Savior He is!
