Take Heed

Hearing, more than any other physical sense, impacts your faith.  Guard your faith.

Text for Today – Mark 4:24 – And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear:  with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you:  and unto you that hear shall more be given.

According to 1 John 5 and 2 Chronicles 7, when God hears, God answers.  And furthermore, He answer with what we ask.  Some have said that God answers prayer in different ways: “yes,” “no,” and “wait a while.”  That may be true when you are asking for things to be done your way, by your will, but when we ask ANYTHING according to His will, the answer is always “yes” and “amen.”  Take a moment to read 2 Corinthians 1:20.

In our Text for Today, the Lord warns us to “take heed what you hear.”  Why?  For the same reason that God takes heed what He hears.  If God, in Whose image we are made, takes heed what He hears, how much more should you and I, His children, made in His image, and commanded by Him to “imitate” Him, guard our own hearing?

Think of this.  As a Spirit-filled believer whose heart is enriched by His Word, I have a shield of faith with which to quench every fiery dart of the wicked one (the devil).  That shield of faith is a spiritual filter that captures the fiery darts that he would fire at me, attempting to evoke words  from my mouth that would defile my very world with wickedness, corruption, defeat, and deception.  But what of those times when I am sitting with other believers, even listening to a minister or ministry in song?  In such an occasion, my guard could easily be relaxed.  I am expecting to hear what edifies and ministers grace.  But there, in that place, too often the case occurs in which subtle doubt and unbelief is thrown out as casually as people talk about the weather.  Jesus said that through our traditions we can make the Word of God of none effect.  Think of that!  We can cause the very creative power of the living God, the Word of God, to become powerless in our lives through traditions that are not Biblical.

What you hear will either build your faith or work to nullify or destroy it.  Without faith, it is impossible to please God.  Since faith comes by hearing the Word of God, and since the Word warns us to “take heed what you hear,” it would seem to me that we need to do exactly that.   Regardless of where you find yourself, take heed what you hear.  If you don’t have the authority to tell someone whose words will damage your faith to be silent, then get up and leave their presence.  Don’t allow anything to damage or weaken your faith, especially in this hour.  Like never before, you need your faith intact today.  GUARD YOUR EARS, AND DO SO DILIGENTLY!
