Absolutely Needful

Make no mistake about it.  You ARE ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY in this life.

Text for Today – 1 Corinthians 12:21 – And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee:  nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.

A secular writer of decades past once penned the following poetic picture (of which my rendering may not be verbatim).

For want of a nail, a shoe was lost.  For want of a shoe, a horse was lost.  For want of a horse, a rider was lost.  For want of a rider, a battle was lost.  For want of a battle, a war was lost.  For want of a war, a kingdom was lost.  All for the loss of a nail.

Which part of your body is it that you do not need?  And if you can name one, are you willing to simply have it removed and discarded as nothing worth having?  I personally cannot name a single part of my body, including my appendix, that I do not consider necessary to my wholeness.  I want to keep all God has given me.  Each part has its own role to play; its own individual function.  And that function helps the whole body achieve all it must, and that without conflict.

One might say, “But I’m so insignificant; I’m really just so unworthy.”  NOT SO!  The blood of Jesus made you worthy.  “But I’m nothing special; I’m really not important like so many people I know.”  Again, NOT SO!  Take a closer look at our Text for Today.

If Jesus, Who is the Head of the body, cannot say to the foot, the farthest removed member of the body from the Head, “I have no need of you,” then you, my friend, are ABSOLUTELY NEEDFUL to the complete function of the body of Christ in the earth.  Our God has ordained good works for you before you were ever born again; good works in which you should walk, and for which you will receive reward if you walk in them.  One does not reward the useless.  Rather, one rewards the necessary when the necessary performs as it should.  God gave you as a spirit into your mother’s womb; each hair of your head was numbered; He knew your form before you were born; He placed anointings in your life for which there is no repentance; He ordained works in which you are to walk; He knows the thoughts He has toward you, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you an expected end.  You don’t do all that for the unnecessary.  You ARE ABSOLUTELY NEEDED by the Lord!  Enjoy your place in Him.
