You are a king. Live with a king’s heart, yielded fully to the King of kings.
Text for Today – Proverbs 21:1 – The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.
As one nears the end of a year, it can be wonderfully refreshing to know that the coming year can be better, and especially that one can have a direct hand in making the coming year better. Well, dear reader, rejoice in the Lord, and again I say, rejoice. Having recently completed my 74th orbit around our sun, that is of particular interest to me as I share my writing today.
We already know what the Word of God has to say about your future. God wants you blessed, prosperous, and in health. He wants you to be the head and not the tail, above only and not beneath. Just read Deuteronomy 28, 3 John, or Jeremiah 29:11. It’s already stated clearly in your written copy of the covenant God has made and given you. As the seed of Abraham (Galatians 3), you are already redeemed from the curse of the law, and prepared to walk in the blessings of the Lord.
In every nation of the world, national leaders play a role in how the blessing of God is manifest in that nation. Regardless of the nation in which a believer lives, the believer has the holy charge to pray for his/her leaders. We are to lift up our heads (those who have authority over us at every level of life) so that the King of glory, the Lord Jesus Christ can come into that leadership role and exercise holy influence over the decisions made and the actions taken.
Now since we already know that it is the faith of the believer that moves God, and since we know that without faith God cannot be pleased, then we can begin to see how we are to ply our work as intercessors and prayer warriors in order to cause our leaders to impact the coming year in a positive and even Godly manner. Here is the simplicity of it. You know the will of God for your life; just read the Lord’s prayer. You know that your faith can please God, and in so doing, can indeed move God in your behalf according to the Word of God. Therefore, when you pray, lift up those who have authority over you. Pray for them. Speak the Word of God over them. A proper confession of faith here is absolutely invaluable. Remember, the heart of your leader is in the hand of the Lord, and the Lord will turn his heart as He pleases. But never forget that your prayers are a key element in the Lord turning the leader’s heart. Your prayers enable you to lead quiet and peaceable lives in all godliness and honesty. In short, your prayers can create the channels into which the Lord will direct the king’s heart in a manner that honors the Kingdom of God.
